France is a member of the European Union (E.U.).
A valid passport is required. It is recommended that you check before travelling to see if you are required to have a visa or not. The Visa Wizard of the Government of France can be used to determine wether you need a visa.
All non-EU travellers should take into account EES and ETIAS: please find below all relevant information:
Europe’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is a biometric border system that replaces passport stamps for non-EU travelers. It records every entry and exit using fingerprints and facial scans, and automatically tracks how many of your 90 allowed Schengen days you have used. EES began its phased rollout in October 2025 and is being progressively implemented across all Schengen external borders through mid-2026.
The following website provides all details on what to expect at the border:

In addition, ETIAS will be enrolled in the last quarter of 2026.
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is a new entry requirement for non-EU nationals from 59 visa-exempt countries travelling to 30 European countries. Travellers will be requested to have the ETIAS authorisation before coming to Europe. To get one, you will need to apply online. Find out more about the authorisation in this website.
