A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to travel to the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed into the traveler's passport. The specific type of visa needed can depend on your nationality and the nature of the conference.

Certain international travelers may be eligible to enter the United States without a visa if their country of citizenship is part of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP). The VWP allows eligible travelers from VWP countries, with a valid electronic passport, to enter the United States without a visa for up to 90 days for business or pleasure, based on a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel.

Please visit the U.S. Government webpages for all VWP qualifications and ESTA application. Anyone who does not qualify for the VWP or other program exempting them from the visa requirement, needs to apply for a visa.
